Assistant Principal (Safeguarding and Wellbeing DSL) role with a focus on student support and leadership.

The Opportunity:

As an Assistant Principal (Safeguarding and Wellbeing DSL), you will play a key role in ensuring the safety, wellbeing, and academic success of students. This is a leadership position that requires a strong focus on safeguarding, pastoral care, and supporting staff and students to reach their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the school's safeguarding and wellbeing strategy, ensuring compliance with all legal and policy requirements.
  • Provide guidance and support to staff on safeguarding matters, including training and professional development.
  • Act as the designated safeguarding lead, liaising with external agencies, parents, and students to ensure the welfare of all pupils.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of safeguarding and wellbeing policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and implement school-wide strategies that promote student wellbeing and academic success.
  • Support the development of a positive, inclusive school culture that prioritises student safety and mental health.
  • Ensure that all safeguarding incidents are reported, recorded, and followed up in accordance with statutory requirements.
  • Work closely with other senior leaders to ensure that safeguarding is embedded across all aspects of school life.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Relevant experience in a senior leadership or safeguarding role within education.
  • A strong understanding of child protection, safeguarding legislation, and best practice.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and leadership skills.
  • Experience in managing and supporting staff in safeguarding matters.
  • A relevant qualification in education or leadership (e.g., NPQSL, NPQH, or equivalent).

Preferred

  • Experience working within a multi-academy trust or similar educational organisation.
  • Experience in developing and leading pastoral care strategies.
  • Experience with child protection and welfare policy development.
  • Knowledge of mental health and wellbeing initiatives in schools.
  • Experience in managing complex safeguarding cases and working with external agencies.
