The Opportunity:

As an Assistant SENCO, you will play a vital role in supporting the Assistant Principal – SENDCO to deliver high-quality SEND provision across the school. You will work closely with teachers, support staff, and families to ensure students with special educational needs receive the support they need to thrive academically and personally.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the development and implementation of individual education plans (IEPs) for students with special educational needs.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, teaching assistants, and external agencies to ensure consistent and effective support for students.
  • Monitor and evaluate the progress of students with special educational needs and report findings to the Assistant Principal – SENDCO.
  • Organise and deliver training sessions for staff on inclusive teaching strategies and SEND best practices.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to student support and interventions.
  • Work closely with parents and carers to build strong partnerships and ensure student needs are fully understood and met.
  • Contribute to the development of the school’s SEND policy and ensure it aligns with current legislation and best practice.
  • Support the planning and delivery of targeted interventions, including social skills development and emotional coaching.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified teacher with relevant SEND experience.
  • Strong understanding of special educational needs and inclusion strategies.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development in the SEND field.

Preferred

  • Experience in a similar role within a school or educational setting.
  • Knowledge of assessment and intervention strategies for students with complex needs.
  • Experience with behaviour management and emotional support techniques.
  • Familiarity with assistive technology and sensory support tools.
