Summary:

Attendance Officer role with a focus on improving student attendance and reducing persistent absence.

The Opportunity:

As an Attendance Officer, you will play a key role in driving improvements in student attendance through strategic interventions and strong engagement with students, parents, and the wider school community. This is an opportunity to make a real impact on student outcomes and school performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct home visits and late gate patrols to support consistent attendance.
  • Implement whole-school strategies to reduce persistent absence and improve attendance levels.
  • Engage with students and parents to identify and address barriers to attendance.
  • Provide administrative support to ensure the smooth operation of attendance-related processes.
  • Collaborate with teaching and support staff to develop and monitor attendance improvement plans.
  • Monitor and report on attendance data to support school-wide decision-making.
  • Support the school’s vision of putting students first and transforming lives through education.
  • Contribute to a positive and inclusive school culture that values the well-being of all students.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in a similar role, ideally in an educational setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for working with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Ability to conduct home visits and engage effectively with families.
  • Experience in managing and monitoring attendance data.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Preferred

  • Experience in working with students with additional needs.
  • Knowledge of attendance improvement strategies and best practices.
  • Experience in a school setting with a strong focus on student outcomes.
  • Experience in a large or multi-academy trust environment.
