The Opportunity:

We are seeking a dedicated Caretaker to maintain the school’s buildings and grounds, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for students and staff. This role is ideal for someone who is organized, proactive, and committed to supporting a dynamic school community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Facilities Manager to develop and implement a Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) programme.
  • Ensure high standards of maintenance, cleaning, and compliance across the school buildings and grounds.
  • Conduct routine checks and maintenance on equipment, including heating systems and water pumps.
  • Inspect playgrounds and external areas to ensure the safety of all users.
  • Arrange for contractors to carry out repairs and inspections as needed.
  • Manage the transport of school deliveries, furniture, and equipment between sites.
  • Provide on-call emergency support out of hours for security, repairs, and other urgent matters.
  • Operate fire and intruder alarm systems and manage the security of the school premises.
  • Administer and process maintenance requests using the school’s Facilities Management software.
  • Undertake decorating and general support tasks for school events and holiday lettings.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Ability to perform general repairs and refurbishment at a DIY level.
  • Knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and building systems.
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills.
  • Computer literacy with experience using Microsoft Outlook, Teams, and Facilities Management Software.
  • Flexibility to work outside standard hours and respond to emergencies.

Preferred

  • Experience in security or facilities management.
  • Previous experience in a school or educational setting.
  • Familiarity with health and safety policies and procedures.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Competitive salary of £26,500 per annum.
  • 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 7am – 4pm.
  • Permanent contract with 52 weeks of work per year.
