The Opportunity:

We are seeking a qualified and experienced Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENDCo) to provide strategic leadership of SEND provision across the secondary school. This role is ideal for someone passionate about supporting students with special educational needs and committed to ensuring inclusive, high-quality teaching and support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the day-to-day operation of the school’s SEND policy.
  • Develop and evaluate the strategic direction of SEND provision.
  • Ensure compliance with the SEND Code of Practice and JCQ regulations.
  • Maintain the SEND Information Report and statutory documentation.
  • Provide regular reports to governors on SEND provision and outcomes.
  • Lead early identification processes for SEND across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5.
  • Work with subject teachers to monitor progress and implement targeted interventions.
  • Support teachers to deliver high-quality teaching that meets pupils’ needs.
  • Act as lead professional for relevant multi-agency work.
  • Coordinate referrals to external services and build strong relationships with parents and carers.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • NASENCo qualification
  • Evidence of SEND CPD
  • Training in JCQ Exam Access Arrangements
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to inspire and motivate students
  • Excellent organisation and resilience

Preferred

  • Training in specialist SEND areas (ASD, SEMH, Dyslexia, etc.)
  • Leadership or pastoral training
  • Confidence in using ICT to support teaching and classroom organisation
  • Commitment to professional development and innovative practice
