The Opportunity:

As a Classroom Teacher, you will play a vital role in delivering creative, engaging, and individualised learning experiences to pupils with diverse needs. You will work as part of a dedicated team to support pupils in achieving their full potential, both academically and personally. Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality, individualised teaching to pupils with complex needs, including those with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Severe Learning Difficulties, and Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties.
  • Plan, prepare, and assess pupil progress in line with curriculum requirements and individual needs.
  • Work collaboratively with support staff, parents, and carers to ensure a consistent and supportive learning environment.
  • Take responsibility for the development and maintenance of strong relationships with pupils, parents, and colleagues.
  • Participate in staff training and professional development opportunities to enhance teaching practice.
  • Support pupils in accessing the curriculum through creative and innovative teaching methods.
  • Engage in physical activities and provide personal care as required to support pupil well-being.
  • Contribute to the school’s inclusive and supportive culture through teamwork and collaboration.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • UK Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and experience in teaching pupils with special educational needs.
  • Commitment to high professional standards and a passion for working with children and young people with learning difficulties.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with pupils, parents, and colleagues.
  • Ability to work flexibly and independently in a dynamic and supportive environment.
  • Right to work in the UK.

Preferred

  • Experience in a special school setting with a focus on pupils with complex needs.
  • Familiarity with Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS), Makaton, and other visual support tools.
  • Experience with behaviour management strategies, including Positive Approaches to Behaviour Management.
  • Knowledge of the Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) process and special educational needs legislation.
  • Experience in curriculum development and personalisation for pupils with diverse needs.
