Construction Tutor job opportunity with a focus on practical learning and support for young people.

About the School:

A school dedicated to helping young people aged 15–25 who have struggled in traditional education settings. It offers a supportive, trauma-informed environment where learners can develop practical skills and rebuild confidence through hands-on, real-world learning.

The Opportunity:

As a Construction Tutor, you will play a key role in delivering hands-on learning in carpentry, tiling, decorating, and basic plumbing. This is a chance to make a real difference in the lives of young people by helping them gain valuable skills and confidence through structured, purposeful learning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver engaging Construction sessions that help learners explore creative techniques and develop practical skills
  • Work 1:1 and in small groups to support learners at different levels of confidence and ability
  • Collaborate with your team on scheme of work and lesson planning
  • Encourage attendance, routine, and personal accountability in learners
  • Support the development of learners’ functional skills in Maths and English
  • Keep accurate records of progress, behaviour, and engagement
  • Use a trauma-informed, relational approach to behaviour management
  • Reflect on your own practice and contribute to team development and training

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Experience teaching or delivering structured learning with an understanding of lesson planning and progress tracking
  • Confidence managing the day-to-day expectations of a teaching role, including registers and documentation
  • Experience in Construction or a strong interest in DIY or training others in these environments
  • A Level 3 Award in Education & Training (or equivalent), or be working towards it with clear prior teaching experience
  • Understanding of safeguarding, SEND, and trauma-informed practice
  • Clear, straightforward communication and good organisation skills
  • Basic IT skills (Microsoft 365)

Preferred

  • A full UK driving licence
  • Experience working with young people who have SEMH needs or are neurodivergent
