The Opportunity:

As Deputy Grounds Manager, you will play a vital role in maintaining and developing the school’s extensive grounds and gardens. This is a hands-on position that supports the Grounds Manager in ensuring the highest standards of maintenance across sports pitches and landscaped areas, while managing the Grounds Team and coordinating daily operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the grounds and gardens in the absence of the Grounds Manager
  • Prepare and maintain sports pitches and landscaped areas to the highest standard
  • Supervise and support the Grounds Team with clear direction and leadership
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety standards across all grounds activities
  • Maintain and service all machinery and equipment used in grounds management
  • Coordinate tasks and communicate effectively through the Estates Helpdesk system
  • Support the development of the school’s grounds through ongoing improvements and planning
  • Work flexibly to meet the needs of the school, including events and seasonal demands

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in grounds management or a related field
  • Strong technical knowledge of grounds maintenance and landscaping
  • Ability to lead and manage a team effectively
  • Experience with sports pitch maintenance and landscaping
  • Commitment to health and safety standards
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills

Preferred

  • Experience in a school or educational institution setting
  • Knowledge of grounds management software or systems
  • Experience with machinery and equipment maintenance
  • Flexibility to work outside standard hours and during school events
  • Strong problem-solving and initiative-taking abilities
