Summary:

Counselling Psychologist / Clinical Psychologist job opportunity in Wilmslow and Stoke on Trent.

The Opportunity:

As a Counselling Psychologist / Clinical Psychologist, you will provide vital therapeutic support to children and young people, helping them navigate emotional and mental health challenges. This is a chance to make a real difference within a school setting that values wellbeing and holistic development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver evidence-based therapeutic interventions to children and young people, both individually and in groups
  • Conduct regular assessments and monitor student progress using appropriate tools and measures
  • Manage a caseload effectively, ensuring timely delivery of sessions and accurate record-keeping
  • Liaise with safeguarding teams, line managers, and external professionals to support student needs
  • Provide training and workshops to school staff, parents, and students on mental health and wellbeing
  • Develop and facilitate group therapy programmes tailored to student needs
  • Undertake risk assessments and manage risk appropriately, escalating concerns when necessary
  • Write detailed reports and recommendations based on interventions and assessments
  • Supervise assistant psychologists or similar roles as required
  • Contribute to multiagency working with external professionals such as CAMHS and educational psychologists

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Doctorate in Counselling Psychology or Clinical Psychology with experience working with children and young people
  • Registration with HCPC and BPS
  • Minimum one year of post-qualifying experience with young people
  • Proficiency in at least two therapeutic approaches
  • Ability to deliver short-term and group therapy
  • Strong record-keeping and IT skills
  • Commitment to safeguarding, ethical practice, and inclusive support

Preferred

  • Experience with Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA) and trauma-informed care
  • Experience in school-based clinical settings
  • Knowledge of mental health initiatives and whole-school wellbeing strategies
  • Experience with parent engagement and family support programmes
