The Opportunity:

We are seeking a motivated and dedicated Cover Supervisor to support teaching staff during short-term absences and ensure students remain engaged and focused on their learning. This role is essential in maintaining a positive and productive learning atmosphere across the school.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise whole classes during the absence of teaching staff.
  • Ensure students remain on task and follow lesson instructions provided by teachers.
  • Support the organisation and collation of cover work for teaching staff.
  • Provide clear instructions to external cover teachers and ensure they understand the lesson requirements.
  • Promote inclusion and ensure all students feel respected and supported.
  • Maintain a calm, professional, and positive classroom environment.
  • Respond to general student queries and manage classroom behaviour effectively.
  • Assist other departments across the school when not required for cover duties.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • GCSE Grade A to C or equivalent in English and Maths.
  • Recent experience working within a school environment.
  • Ability to build respectful and trusting relationships with students.
  • Understanding of school policies related to inclusion, safeguarding, and physical contact with students.
  • Good working knowledge of ICT to support learning and performance.
  • Ability to encourage the inclusion of pupils with emotional and/or behavioural difficulties.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement the school’s behaviour management policy.
  • Strong organisational skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and composed under pressure.

Preferred

  • Experience working with young people.
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Experience in teaching or supporting learning.
