The Opportunity:

As Curriculum Leader - Sociology and Criminology, you will lead a passionate team and drive the delivery of high-quality AQA and Eduqas courses. This role is pivotal in shaping student learning and ensuring academic success through innovative teaching and strong leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Sociology and Criminology subject team, ensuring consistent and high-quality teaching across all levels.
  • Develop and implement the curriculum in line with AQA and Eduqas specifications, including GCSE, A Level, and Level 3 Applied Criminology.
  • Support staff with professional development, mentoring, and training to enhance teaching and learning outcomes.
  • Coordinate with senior leadership to align subject content with college-wide goals and initiatives.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress through rigorous assessment and feedback processes.
  • Foster strong relationships with external organisations, including examination boards and universities.
  • Promote inclusion and diversity within the subject team and among students.
  • Encourage and support trainee teachers as part of the college’s commitment to initial teacher training.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in leading a subject team within a sixth form or college setting.
  • Strong subject knowledge in Sociology and Criminology, with experience teaching AQA and Eduqas specifications.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and develop staff, with a focus on improving student outcomes.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students.

Preferred

  • Experience in initial teacher training and mentoring trainee teachers.
  • Familiarity with innovative teaching methods and technologies.
  • Experience in curriculum development and assessment design.
  • Knowledge of external partnerships with universities or examination boards.
