The Opportunity:

The Deputy Head of Pastoral will play a vital role in shaping the school’s pastoral strategy and supporting student wellbeing. This is a leadership position that requires vision, collaboration, and a deep commitment to the school’s values.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop the school’s pastoral care framework, ensuring it aligns with the school’s values and mission.
  • Work closely with the Headteacher to support the emotional, social, and academic wellbeing of all students.
  • Foster strong relationships with students, parents, and staff, promoting a culture of trust and mutual respect.
  • Oversee the implementation of pastoral policies and procedures across the school.
  • Provide guidance and support to teaching and support staff in delivering effective pastoral care.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of pastoral initiatives and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Represent the school at key events and meetings, both internally and externally.
  • Support the transition of students to the next stage of their education, including 11+ and beyond.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in a senior pastoral leadership role within a school setting.
  • Strong leadership and management skills with the ability to inspire and motivate others.
  • Deep understanding of child development and pastoral care practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in working within a values-led, forward-thinking educational environment.

Preferred

  • Experience in a school that offers a broad co-curricular and academic programme.
  • Familiarity with safeguarding and child protection policies.
  • Experience in supporting students through key transitions, such as 11+.
  • A track record of fostering a collaborative and inclusive school culture.
