The Opportunity:

As a Deputy Headteacher (Academic), you will provide strategic leadership for the academic life of the school, ensuring the highest standards of teaching, learning, and assessment. This role is ideal for someone passionate about driving academic strategy and curriculum development in a forward-thinking, independent school environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership for academic strategy, curriculum development, and assessment across the school
  • Coordinate Common Entrance (CE), Pre-Test, and Scholarship examination processes
  • Line-manage Heads of Department and oversee performance management
  • Develop progression between Pre-Prep and Prep, working closely with the Head of Pre-Prep
  • Plan and deliver the transition to co-education and the opening of a Reception class
  • Implement a data-informed approach to pupil tracking and intervention
  • Contribute to the Senior Leadership Team and school improvement planning
  • Support the transition to co-education and manage academic leadership across all phases

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Degree-level qualification
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
  • Experience in a prep school environment
  • Proven track record in academic strategy and curriculum development
  • Experience managing and developing teams, including line management of middle leaders

Preferred

  • Familiarity with Common Entrance, Pre-Test, and Scholarship examination processes
  • Experience in leading major change initiatives, such as transitioning to co-education
  • Strong data analysis skills to support pupil tracking and school improvement
  • Experience in pastoral care and safeguarding
