The Opportunity:
As the Director of SEND, you will lead the school’s approach to supporting students with special educational needs and disabilities. This role is pivotal in ensuring that all pupils receive the highest quality of education, with a focus on inclusion, communication, and academic excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the school’s SEND provision, including the onsite Resource Provision, Horizons.
- Coordinate mainstream and specialist support for students with EHCPs, particularly those with communication and interaction needs.
- Work closely with teaching staff, teaching assistants, and external agencies to ensure effective support for all learners.
- Develop and implement strategies to improve outcomes for students with complex needs.
- Engage with parents and carers to support learning and promote inclusion.
- Monitor and evaluate the impact of SEND provision on student progress and well-being.
- Ensure compliance with legal and policy requirements related to SEND.
- Provide professional development and support for staff working with SEND students.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Proven experience in leading SEND provision in a school setting.
- Experience of supporting students with a wide range of needs, including behaviour and inclusion challenges.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with parents, carers, and external agencies.
- Ability to manage and develop a team of SEND specialists and support staff.
Preferred
- Experience of working within a Resource Provision or Specialist Provision.
- Knowledge of EHCPs and the legal framework surrounding SEND.
- Experience in developing and delivering inclusive teaching strategies.
