The Opportunity:
As the Head of Art, you will lead the Visual Arts Department and play a key role in shaping the creative and academic direction of a school dedicated to inspiring future generations. This is an opportunity to influence curriculum development, promote visual literacy, and lead a passionate team of educators.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leading the development of teaching and learning in the Visual Arts.
- Promoting and supporting creativity across departments.
- Planning, implementing, and reviewing the curriculum within school policy.
- Managing exhibitions and displays of student artwork across the school.
- Producing and reviewing the Visual Arts Departmental Action Plan.
- Ensuring regular, appropriate, and thorough assessment of pupils.
- Overseeing the marking and moderation of assessments and coursework.
- Managing and planning for the invigilation of practical examinations.
- Liaising with the SENCo and supporting access arrangements.
- Promoting the work of the Visual Arts department through publications, the website, and social media.
- Developing links with junior schools and supporting cross-curricular learning.
- Organising and managing departmental trips and expeditions.
- Overseeing the induction, training, and professional development of departmental staff.
- Representing the Visual Arts department at Heads of Department meetings.
- Ensuring the safe and effective management of the Visual Arts Centre.
- Preparing and managing the annual budget for Visual Arts resources and equipment.
- Supporting the school’s safeguarding and child protection policies.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Proven leadership experience in a school or educational setting.
- Strong subject knowledge in Visual Arts, including Fine Art, Digital Art, and Art Textiles.
- Experience in curriculum development and delivery across key stages.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills.
- Ability to manage and motivate a team of staff and students.
- Commitment to safeguarding and child protection.
Preferred
- Experience in digital learning and the development of digital resources.
- Experience in leading departmental trips and expeditions.
- Experience in managing and reviewing examination results and feedback.
- Familiarity with Visual Arts curriculum at GCSE and A level.
- Experience in promoting and supporting cross-curricular learning.
