The Opportunity:

As the Head of Biology, you will lead and develop the department, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning. This role offers the chance to shape the curriculum, support staff development, and make a real impact on student success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement the Department Development Plan, setting targets and analyzing exam results.
  • Select appropriate examination boards and courses for students.
  • Manage the production and distribution of course notes.
  • Lead and organize departmental meetings to promote collaboration and best practice.
  • Support the recruitment, induction, and professional development of teaching staff.
  • Conduct lesson observations and provide feedback to colleagues.
  • Assist in student recruitment, offering academic guidance and arranging interviews.
  • Deliver high-quality lessons aligned with the Scheme of Work and examination specifications.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • A degree in Biology or a relevant subject.
  • Experience in teaching and supporting students aged 14+.
  • Experience in line management and coaching.
  • Strong knowledge of EAL practices and curriculum initiatives.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office and online systems.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting student welfare.

Preferred

  • Experience in developing and implementing teaching strategies.
  • Awareness of developments in Biology education at Key Stage 4 and post-16 levels.
  • Experience in student discipline and classroom management.
  • A passion for inspiring and motivating students.
