The Opportunity:

As the Head of Chemistry, you will lead a passionate and dedicated department, delivering high-quality science education from Year 9 through to Year 13. This role offers the chance to shape curriculum, inspire students, and contribute to a progressive and research-driven educational environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Chemistry Department, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning.
  • Develop and implement the Chemistry curriculum across Key Stages 3 to 5, working closely with the KS3 coordinator.
  • Promote a culture of safety and best practice in the laboratory, adhering to current health and safety regulations.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in the Science Faculty to share innovative teaching strategies and resources.
  • Support students’ academic and personal development through effective teaching and pastoral care.
  • Engage with parents and the wider school community to promote the importance of science education.
  • Stay up to date with developments in the field of Chemistry and integrate new technologies into teaching.
  • Contribute to the school’s co-curricular programme and support student enrichment activities.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience as a Chemistry teacher, including teaching A-Level.
  • Strong leadership and management skills with experience in departmental leadership.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of health and safety practices in a laboratory setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality, student-centred instruction.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and a growth mindset.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with students, staff, and parents.

Preferred

  • Experience in curriculum development and assessment.
  • Familiarity with using ICT to enhance learning in the classroom.
  • Involvement in co-curricular activities and student support initiatives.
  • Experience in a school with a strong international focus or similar educational environment.
