The Opportunity:
As the Head of Chemistry, you will lead a passionate and dedicated department, delivering high-quality science education from Year 9 through to Year 13. This role offers the chance to shape curriculum, inspire students, and contribute to a progressive and research-driven educational environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the Chemistry Department, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning.
- Develop and implement the Chemistry curriculum across Key Stages 3 to 5, working closely with the KS3 coordinator.
- Promote a culture of safety and best practice in the laboratory, adhering to current health and safety regulations.
- Collaborate with colleagues in the Science Faculty to share innovative teaching strategies and resources.
- Support students’ academic and personal development through effective teaching and pastoral care.
- Engage with parents and the wider school community to promote the importance of science education.
- Stay up to date with developments in the field of Chemistry and integrate new technologies into teaching.
- Contribute to the school’s co-curricular programme and support student enrichment activities.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Proven experience as a Chemistry teacher, including teaching A-Level.
- Strong leadership and management skills with experience in departmental leadership.
- Up-to-date knowledge of health and safety practices in a laboratory setting.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality, student-centred instruction.
- Commitment to continuous professional development and a growth mindset.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with students, staff, and parents.
Preferred
- Experience in curriculum development and assessment.
- Familiarity with using ICT to enhance learning in the classroom.
- Involvement in co-curricular activities and student support initiatives.
- Experience in a school with a strong international focus or similar educational environment.
