The Opportunity:

As Head of Chemistry, you will lead a thriving department known for academic excellence and innovation. This role offers the chance to inspire students, shape curriculum development, and drive the department forward in a progressive and well-resourced academic environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Chemistry department, ensuring academic excellence and innovation in teaching and learning.
  • Develop and implement a dynamic and engaging curriculum across all key stages.
  • Support and mentor staff, fostering a culture of professional growth and collaboration.
  • Promote student engagement through enrichment activities, competitions, and academic societies.
  • Ensure the effective use of state-of-the-art facilities and resources to enhance the learning experience.
  • Work closely with the Head of Science to align departmental goals with school-wide priorities.
  • Encourage and support pupils in achieving outstanding results and developing a lifelong passion for Chemistry.
  • Represent the department in school-wide meetings and contribute to the development of the broader academic strategy.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven leadership experience in a senior academic role, ideally within a school or educational institution.
  • Strong classroom teaching experience across a range of ages and abilities.
  • In-depth knowledge of Chemistry curricula, including IGCSE, A Level, and IB programmes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to inspire and motivate students and staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and develop a successful academic department.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Preferred

  • Experience in leading departmental development and curriculum innovation.
  • Familiarity with the use of modern teaching technologies and practical science resources.
  • Experience in academic outreach, competitions, or enrichment activities.
  • Background in a co-educational or boarding school environment.
