The Opportunity:

As the Head of Contemporary Music, you will lead and inspire young musicians across a school with a strong emphasis on performance, creativity, and collaboration. This role offers the opportunity to shape a dynamic programme and contribute to a thriving arts culture.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop the Contemporary Music programme, focusing on vocal and instrumental teaching.
  • Deliver engaging one-to-one lessons in contemporary music styles, including pop and musical theatre.
  • Coach vocal groups and provide expert harmony coaching and ensemble direction.
  • Lead and direct contemporary ensembles, bands, and performance groups.
  • Organise and manage events such as Open Mic Nights, House Music Nights, and showcases.
  • Support students in developing their musical skills and confidence through performance opportunities.
  • Collaborate with other music department staff to enhance the overall music experience.
  • Utilise music technology to enhance teaching and student learning where appropriate.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Expertise in contemporary vocal coaching, particularly in pop and musical theatre.
  • Strong contemporary piano accompaniment skills.
  • Experience leading bands and contemporary ensembles.
  • Ability to teach instrumental and vocal students of all abilities.
  • Excellent organisational, communication, and collaborative skills.
  • Passion for music education and developing young talent.

Preferred

  • Experience with aural learning and teaching students who learn aurally.
  • Knowledge of music technology and ability to teach Music Technology.
  • Experience in curriculum development and programme leadership.
  • Strong performance background and experience in live performance settings.
