The Opportunity:

A Biology Teacher (Chemistry Desirable) is sought to deliver high-quality IGCSE Biology lessons and contribute to curriculum development. The role supports students on a pre-med pathway and requires a passionate educator committed to academic and personal growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver well-structured, progressive IGCSE Biology lessons to high school students with Japanese language backgrounds.
  • Use assessment effectively to monitor understanding and support student progress.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attainment and contribute to departmental and whole-school monitoring.
  • Support students in achieving strong academic outcomes, including preparation for public examinations and progression to higher education pathways.
  • Contribute actively to the review, development, and implementation of the school’s Biology curricula.
  • Collaborate in the design and development of the school’s pre-med programme.
  • Ensure practical work is well planned, safely delivered, and supports students’ scientific understanding.
  • Promote students’ academic confidence, resilience, and well-being, with a focus on EAL learners.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • A good honours degree (or equivalent) in Biology or a closely related discipline.
  • Ability to teach Biology confidently.
  • Commitment to high-quality teaching, effective assessment, and student progress.
  • Willingness to contribute to curriculum development and departmental improvement.
  • Demonstrates cultural sensitivity and respect for Japanese culture.
  • Experience of teaching to International or EAL learners.
  • Experience of teaching EAL learners.
  • Demonstrates sensitivity to and respect for Christian values.

Preferred

  • Ability to teach A level Chemistry or equivalent.
  • Experience of working in an international or bi-cultural educational environment.
  • Experience contributing to post-16 curriculum design.
  • Familiarity with university entry requirements for medicine, biomedical science or related fields.
