The Opportunity:
As the Head of EAL, you will lead the strategic development of English as an Additional Language provision, ensuring that students are supported academically, socially, and linguistically. This role is central to enabling international students to thrive within the school’s academic and pastoral environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement a coherent EAL curriculum that supports rapid and sustained language acquisition.
- Oversee diagnostic assessments and coordinate tailored intervention pathways for EAL learners.
- Collaborate with subject departments to provide effective classroom strategies, scaffolding, and differentiation.
- Build strong relationships with House staff, tutors, and parents to ensure consistent support for international students.
- Champion cultural inclusion and promote intercultural awareness across the school community.
- Contribute to whole-school policy development, staff training, and strategic planning.
- Ensure the needs of EAL learners are embedded within the school’s vision to empower global citizens.
- Support initiatives across the wider school group, including working at other sites when necessary.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Proven leadership experience in EAL provision within a UK boarding school setting.
- Strong knowledge of EAL curriculum design and pedagogy.
- Experience in managing and supporting international students in a pastoral role.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with staff, students, and parents.
- Ability to work collaboratively with academic leadership teams and subject departments.
Preferred
- Experience with diagnostic assessments and intervention planning for EAL learners.
- Background in pastoral care and student well-being.
- Familiarity with safeguarding and child protection policies.
- Experience in staff training and professional development.
- Fluency in additional languages.
