The Opportunity:

As the Head of English, you will lead a department dedicated to fostering a love of English and literacy. Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a coherent, ambitious English curriculum that promotes student achievement and a lifelong love of learning.
  • Lead and support a team of teachers to ensure high-quality teaching and consistent standards across the department.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress, providing targeted support to ensure all students succeed.
  • Promote a culture of professional development and continuous improvement within the department.
  • Work closely with other departments to ensure a holistic approach to student learning and development.
  • Model excellent teaching practice and lead by example in the classroom.
  • Encourage and foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for all students.
  • Ensure that reading is at the heart of the school’s priorities and that all students become confident and enthusiastic readers.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience as a middle or senior leader in English with a track record of success.
  • Outstanding classroom practice with consistently strong student outcomes.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and support staff.
  • A deep commitment to literacy, reading, and curriculum excellence.
  • Experience in developing and implementing effective teaching strategies and professional development programs.
  • A strong focus on consistency, culture, and high-quality teaching.

Preferred

  • Experience in leading curriculum development and innovation.
  • Experience with Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL) or similar.
  • Experience in working with students from diverse backgrounds and needs.
  • Experience in managing and mentoring staff effectively.
  • A passion for education and a commitment to student success.
