The Opportunity:
We are seeking a Subject Leader English to lead and develop the English and Media department at a specialist SEN school. This is a key leadership role with the opportunity to shape the curriculum and support staff in delivering high-quality teaching to students across all ability levels.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the English and Media department, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning.
- Develop and implement a curriculum that meets the needs of students with complex learning disabilities and difficulties.
- Support and mentor teaching staff in the delivery of basic skills such as phonics and reading.
- Work collaboratively with other subject leaders and the Middle Leadership Team to drive whole-school initiatives.
- Monitor and evaluate student progress, ensuring consistent achievement across all levels of qualification.
- Promote a culture of reading among both students and staff.
- Ensure compliance with safeguarding and child protection policies.
- Contribute to the ongoing development of the school’s educational and pastoral programmes.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Qualified teacher with experience in teaching English.
- Experience of working with students with complex learning disabilities and difficulties.
- Strong leadership and management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to develop and implement effective teaching strategies for SEN students.
- Understanding of SEN and the barriers to learning.
Preferred
- Experience in leading a subject department.
- Experience with a range of qualifications from Entry Level to GCSE and A-Level.
- Experience in developing reading and literacy programmes.
- Experience with whole-school initiatives and leadership roles.
