The Opportunity:
A school is seeking a passionate and experienced Head of Geography to lead its department from September 2026. This role offers the opportunity to shape the Geography curriculum and inspire students across all key stages. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring high academic standards and a stimulating learning experience for all.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the Geography department, ensuring the delivery of a high-quality, engaging curriculum from Year 7 to A Level.
- Develop and implement a curriculum that promotes critical thinking, fieldwork, and academic excellence.
- Support and mentor Geography teachers to enhance teaching and learning practices.
- Work collaboratively with the wider Humanities team to deliver a cohesive and enriching educational experience.
- Monitor and evaluate student progress, ensuring the continued achievement of excellent academic outcomes.
- Promote active participation in fieldwork and extracurricular Geography-related activities.
- Ensure that the department maintains a positive and inclusive learning environment.
- Stay up to date with developments in Geography education and incorporate innovative teaching methods.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Qualified teacher with a strong background in Geography at all levels.
- Proven experience in leading a department and managing a team of teachers.
- Excellent classroom practice and a track record of delivering high academic standards.
- Strong organisational and leadership skills.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students.
Preferred
- Experience in curriculum development and innovation.
- Familiarity with fieldwork and outdoor learning.
- Experience with teaching Geography at A Level.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work flexibly and collaboratively with colleagues.
