The Opportunity:

As Head of History, you will provide academic leadership and strategic direction for the History department, driving a rich and engaging curriculum. You will inspire students through innovative teaching and lead a programme of enrichment that extends learning beyond the classroom.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and lead a dynamic and challenging History curriculum that meets the needs of all students.
  • Provide academic leadership and support to History teachers, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Organise and manage a range of subject enrichment activities, including lectures, visits, and competitions.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning.
  • Collaborate with other departments to integrate History with cross-curricular themes and initiatives.
  • Represent the History department at staff meetings, parent events, and external conferences.
  • Promote a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages curiosity and critical thinking.
  • Support the school’s mission by contributing to the development of the Kingsley Way and its educational pillars.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified teacher with experience in leading a department.
  • Proven ability to deliver high-quality History teaching and learning.
  • Strong leadership and management skills with experience in academic leadership.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Commitment to the school’s values and educational pillars.

Preferred

  • Experience in developing and leading subject enrichment programmes.
  • Familiarity with positive education and wellbeing initiatives.
  • Experience with the 4D Curriculum or similar progressive teaching approaches.
  • Knowledge of the Kingsley Way and its core values.
