Summary:

Head of History needed for September 2026. Lead a dynamic History department in a thriving Prep School.

The Opportunity:

As the Head of History, you will lead and inspire a team of passionate educators, delivering engaging History lessons across Years 1–6. You will play a key role in fostering curiosity, critical thinking, and a love of learning in a supportive and inclusive school environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality, engaging History lessons to pupils across Years 1–6.
  • Lead and support a team of History teachers, providing guidance and professional development.
  • Develop and implement a stimulating and challenging History curriculum.
  • Foster a culture of curiosity, critical thinking, and academic excellence.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Monitor and assess pupil progress, ensuring consistent standards of teaching and learning.
  • Promote the value of History through extracurricular activities and school events.
  • Stay up to date with developments in History education and pedagogy.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified teacher with experience in teaching History at primary level.
  • Proven leadership experience within a school or educational setting.
  • Strong subject knowledge in History, with the ability to inspire and engage young learners.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Preferred

  • Experience in a senior leadership role within a school.
  • Familiarity with independent education and selective admissions policies.
  • Experience in curriculum development and assessment.
  • Knowledge of innovative teaching methods and technologies.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Competitive salary range of £45,000–£63,000, depending on experience.
