The Opportunity:

We are seeking a dynamic and passionate Head of Religious Studies and Philosophy to lead a thriving department and inspire students. Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Religious Studies and Philosophy department, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning.
  • Deliver engaging and challenging A Level Philosophy lessons with a strong focus on student achievement.
  • Develop and implement a stimulating and supportive curriculum that promotes critical thinking and intellectual curiosity.
  • Encourage and support departmental colleagues through mentoring, collaboration, and professional development.
  • Organize and lead co-curricular and enrichment activities that enhance students’ understanding of religion and philosophy.
  • Promote the subject within the school and wider community through events, outreach, and public engagement.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress, providing constructive feedback to support continuous improvement.
  • Work closely with senior leadership to ensure alignment with the school’s academic and pastoral goals.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in teaching Religious Studies and Philosophy at all levels, with a strong emphasis on A Level Philosophy.
  • Demonstrable subject knowledge and a passion for religion and philosophy.
  • Leadership experience, either as a Head of Department or with the potential to take on such a role.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate students and colleagues.
  • Commitment to pastoral care and the overall development of students.

Preferred

  • Experience in teaching World Religions.
  • Strong record of involvement in co-curricular and enrichment activities.
  • Experience in leading departmental initiatives and driving improvement.
  • Familiarity with independent school environments and their unique challenges and opportunities.
