The Opportunity:

As a Head of House (Non-Teaching), you will play a key role in supporting the wellbeing and development of students in a dynamic boarding environment. This is a vital position that contributes to the school’s mission of providing a nurturing and inspiring education for all.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Boarding Team and Senior Leadership Team to ensure compliance with National Minimum Standards for boarding schools.
  • Ensure the health and safety of staff, boarders, and visitors in line with the School’s Health and Safety Policy.
  • Monitor and review routines within the Boarding House to maintain a structured and supportive environment.
  • Liaise with the Health Centre to manage boarders’ medical needs and promote healthy lifestyles.
  • Provide care and supervision for unwell boarders and communicate with parents/guardians on student progress and welfare.
  • Support academic achievement by liaising with the school and addressing any issues impacting student performance.
  • Implement and enforce a fair system of sanctions, reporting serious incidents to the Senior Leadership Team.
  • Promote positive behaviour, self-management, and a culture of respect and trust among boarders.
  • Assist with a variety of outings and activities, including co-curricular and weekend trips.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven leadership experience in an educational or boarding environment.
  • Strong commitment to delivering outstanding pastoral care and student wellbeing.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage a team effectively and work in a fast-paced, varied environment.
  • Willingness to obtain a recognised first aid qualification.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.

Preferred

  • Current Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) training or willingness to undertake it.
  • Completion of BSA courses or willingness to undertake boarding-related training.
  • Ability to operate a minibus or willingness to learn.
