The Opportunity:

As the Head of Instrumental Studies, you will lead the school’s instrumental music program and inspire students across all ability levels. This role offers the chance to shape a vibrant musical culture, manage a team of visiting teachers, and oversee performance events and external examinations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and lead a team of Visiting Music Teachers
  • Direct and develop ensembles such as Concert Band and Big Band
  • Curate and oversee the weekly Lunchtime Concert series
  • Coordinate logistics for concerts, events, and external examinations
  • Promote and champion instrumental music across the school
  • Build strong relationships with students, parents, staff, and external partners
  • Ensure high-quality musical experiences that support student development
  • Contribute to the school's musical touring and partnership programs

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Strong instrumental performance background, preferably in woodwind or brass
  • Proven experience in instrumental teaching and ensemble direction
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills
  • Experience working in a school environment
  • Degree from a university or conservatoire
  • QTS/PGCE qualification

Preferred

  • Experience in managing staff and leading teams
  • Background in teaching within a co-educational setting
  • Experience with high-quality touring and external partnerships
