Head of Mathematics role at a leading independent school. Lead and inspire the Maths department.

The Opportunity:

As the Head of Mathematics, you will lead and inspire the Maths department across Senior Prep and Senior School. This is a key leadership role that shapes the academic and pastoral experience of students, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning. The successful candidate will drive student progress and contribute to the school’s overall mission.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership for the Maths department, setting direction and producing an annual departmental plan.
  • Lead and develop teachers through observations, learning walks, and regular department meetings.
  • Drive student progress by monitoring assessment data and leading timely interventions.
  • Oversee internal and external assessments, ensuring compliance with exam board regulations.
  • Manage departmental administration, including budgeting, resources, and homework arrangements.
  • Promote the subject through co-curricular activities and school events.
  • Support whole-school priorities and contribute to initiatives aligned with the school’s ethos.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified teacher with strong secondary (Years 7–13) classroom experience.
  • Proven track record in raising student attainment.
  • Leadership experience in a school department with excellent people management skills.
  • Strong organisational skills and experience in assessment and data analysis.
  • Competence in using digital platforms for resource management and reporting.

Preferred

  • Experience in managing a departmental budget and resources.
  • Experience with inclusive practice and staff welfare.
  • Enthusiasm for promoting mathematics across the school and in co-curricular activities.
