The Opportunity:

As Head of Mathematics, you will lead a high-performing department and drive continuous improvement in teaching and learning. This is a key leadership role with the opportunity to shape the strategic direction of mathematics across the academy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop a team of dedicated teachers to ensure high standards of teaching and student achievement in mathematics.
  • Implement rigorous quality assurance processes and monitor departmental performance to drive continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to whole-school strategic and operational planning, including the development of schemes of work and assessment strategies.
  • Promote innovative and effective approaches to teaching and learning across the department.
  • Support the professional development of staff and foster a positive, supportive culture.
  • Work collaboratively with senior leaders to ensure alignment with school-wide goals and priorities.
  • Maintain strong communication with stakeholders, including parents, students, and external partners.
  • Take on additional responsibilities as Associate Senior Leader for Mathematics, if applicable.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in teaching mathematics at secondary level.
  • Strong track record of leadership in a subject or whole-school context.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive continuous improvement in student outcomes.
  • Commitment to high standards and a passion for inspiring students and colleagues.

Preferred

  • Experience in developing and implementing schemes of work and assessment strategies.
  • Background in curriculum leadership or senior leadership roles.
  • Experience with professional development and staff training.
  • Familiarity with educational technology and innovative teaching methods.
