The Opportunity:

As the Head of Maths, you will lead a high-performing department and contribute to the strategic direction of mathematics across the school. This role is ideal for an experienced middle leader or an aspiring senior leader looking to make a lasting impact on student outcomes and school-wide initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the mathematics department, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning across all key stages.
  • Develop and implement departmental strategies to improve student achievement and engagement in mathematics.
  • Support and mentor staff, providing professional development opportunities and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to shape the school’s academic vision and ensure alignment with curriculum and policy objectives.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress, using data to inform teaching and support interventions where needed.
  • Promote a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student participation and achievement.
  • Represent the department in meetings, conferences, and external events, promoting the school’s academic standards and values.
  • Work closely with other subject leaders to ensure cross-curricular collaboration and innovation in teaching practices.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified teacher with a strong background in mathematics education.
  • Proven experience in a middle leadership role within a school setting.
  • Excellent classroom practice and a track record of improving student outcomes.
  • Strong leadership and management skills with the ability to inspire and motivate staff.
  • Experience in developing and leading departmental strategies and initiatives.

Preferred

  • Experience in senior leadership or a desire to progress into senior leadership roles.
  • Familiarity with innovative teaching methods and the use of technology in the classroom.
  • Experience in curriculum development and assessment strategies.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
