The Opportunity:

The Head of Media and Film will lead a thriving department, shaping the future of Media Studies, Creative Digital Media Production, and Film Studies. This role offers the chance to build on a successful foundation and contribute to the strategic direction of the institution.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a diverse team of staff and students, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning.
  • Develop and implement innovative curricula that reflect industry trends and student needs.
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive environment that promotes student achievement and well-being.
  • Collaborate with other department heads to contribute to college-wide initiatives and strategic priorities.
  • Monitor and evaluate student performance, ensuring strong examination results and successful progression to higher education.
  • Support the professional development of staff through training, research, and cross-college collaboration.
  • Ensure the department maintains a strong extra-curricular programme that enhances student engagement and skills.
  • Represent the department at college meetings and contribute to the overall management structure.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven leadership experience in a similar role within a further education setting.
  • Strong subject knowledge in Media and Film, with experience in delivering high-quality teaching and learning.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills, with the ability to manage a large and diverse team.
  • Demonstrated success in improving student outcomes and examination results.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Preferred

  • Experience in educational research and professional development initiatives.
  • Familiarity with modern teaching technologies and ILT (Interactive Learning Technologies).
  • Background in curriculum development and strategic planning.
  • Experience with cross-college collaboration and leadership in a multi-disciplinary environment.
