The Opportunity:

As the Head of Pastoral Care and Designated Safeguarding Lead, you will play a vital role in shaping the school’s pastoral care strategy and safeguarding framework. This leadership position is central to ensuring the emotional, social, and academic well-being of students, while upholding the highest standards of safeguarding and child protection.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership and direction for all pastoral care initiatives across the school.
  • Oversee and maintain robust safeguarding systems, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and Keeping Children Safe in Education guidelines.
  • Respond to safeguarding concerns with professionalism, sensitivity, and a clear focus on the best interests of the child.
  • Collaborate closely with external agencies, parents, and colleagues to support the well-being and development of all students.
  • Foster a culture of care, trust, and respect within the school community.
  • Support and guide staff in delivering high-quality pastoral care and promoting positive behavior and emotional resilience.
  • Ensure that safeguarding and wellbeing are embedded in all aspects of school life.
  • Lead the development and implementation of pastoral care policies and procedures.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience as a Designated Safeguarding Lead or working closely with one.
  • Strong leadership and management experience in a pastoral care or educational setting.
  • In-depth knowledge of safeguarding legislation and best practice.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A compassionate and reflective approach to student well-being.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff, parents, and external agencies.

Preferred

  • Experience in a senior leadership role within an educational institution.
  • A background in child development and emotional well-being.
  • Experience of managing and mentoring pastoral care teams.
  • Familiarity with the 11+ programme or similar academic pathways.
