The Opportunity:
As the Head of PE and Vocational Department, you will lead and develop the provision of physical education and vocational courses, ensuring high standards of teaching and student achievement. This role offers the chance to shape the future of a dynamic and forward-thinking department.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategically lead and manage the PE and Vocational Department to drive continuous improvement in teaching and learning.
- Develop and implement an engaging extra-curricular and enrichment programme for students.
- Monitor, evaluate and report on student progress and attainment across all cohorts.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to ensure alignment with school-wide goals and priorities.
- Support and mentor teachers within the department to enhance their professional development.
- Liaise with external agencies, parents and other schools to ensure continuity and support for students.
- Promote a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student achievement and discipline.
- Ensure compliance with the Teachers’ Standards and school policies.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Proven experience in leading a department within a school setting.
- Strong classroom teaching experience with a focus on PE and vocational subjects.
- Demonstrated ability to improve student attainment and progress.
- Experience in managing and developing staff within a school environment.
- Familiarity with the Teachers’ Standards in England and relevant education legislation.
Preferred
- Experience in developing and delivering extra-curricular programmes.
- Leadership experience in a school or educational institution.
- Experience with curriculum development and assessment strategies.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
