The Opportunity:
As Head of Science, you will lead a large and successful department, driving academic excellence and promoting STEM across the school. This is a key leadership role with the opportunity to shape the strategic direction of Science and inspire students from Year 9 through to A Level.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage a large and successful Science Faculty comprising 16 subject specialists and dedicated technicians.
- Deliver the highest academic standards across Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, including AQA, OCR, and Edexcel specifications.
- Support pupils’ progression to leading universities and oversee enrichment opportunities such as national and international trips.
- Champion academic excellence and work closely with senior leadership to develop and implement Science strategies.
- Promote STEM initiatives and ensure alignment with the school’s mission and values.
- Contribute to the pastoral and co-curricular life of the school.
- Oversee the development of Science curriculum and ensure high-quality teaching and learning.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to Science staff and technicians.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Proven experience in a senior leadership role within a school or educational institution.
- Strong track record in delivering academic excellence in Science subjects.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
- Qualified teacher with relevant subject knowledge in Science, with a specialism in Physics being advantageous.
- Experience in managing a large and successful department.
Preferred
- Experience with AQA, OCR, and Edexcel specifications.
- Experience in promoting STEM initiatives and extracurricular activities.
- Experience in leading pastoral and co-curricular programs.
- Strong understanding of inclusive education and diversity initiatives.
- Experience in a school with a similar ethos and values.
