Head of Science job opportunity at a specialist school in Staffordshire. Lead Science teaching and curriculum development.

The Opportunity:

As Head of Science, you will lead the Science department and drive academic excellence across the school. This role offers the chance to shape curriculum development and inspire students with a passion for Science.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support the Science department to ensure high-quality teaching and learning for all students.
  • Develop and implement innovative Science policies and procedures to enhance student outcomes.
  • Collaborate with the Headteacher to set and achieve departmental targets and improvement plans.
  • Deliver Science lessons and contribute to the wider curriculum, including off-site teaching where appropriate.
  • Promote student wellbeing and personal development as part of a supportive school culture.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities to support whole-school effectiveness and improvement.
  • Ensure the welfare and safeguarding of all students at all times.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven leadership experience in a Science department.
  • Strong knowledge of Science curriculum and pedagogy.
  • Experience in improving student achievement and engagement in Science.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with senior staff and across the school.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Preferred

  • Experience in specialist education or working with students with social, emotional, and mental health needs.
  • Familiarity with therapeutic and holistic approaches to education.
  • Experience in curriculum innovation and development.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
