Higher Level Teaching Assistant - Pastoral and Behaviour | Support pupils' wellbeing and behaviour in a specialist school.

The Opportunity:

As a Higher Level Teaching Assistant - Pastoral and Behaviour, you will play a key role in promoting positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing among students. You will work closely with staff and pupils to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment that helps young people thrive.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Mentor and coach teaching assistants and classroom staff to enhance pastoral support
  • Deliver targeted interventions and support for pupils with complex needs, including time out of the classroom when necessary
  • Collaborate with the pastoral team to develop and implement effective behaviour improvement strategies
  • Support pupils in understanding and meeting school expectations for conduct and engagement
  • Model positive behaviour management and promote emotional resilience and self-regulation
  • Maintain accurate records of interventions and evaluate their effectiveness
  • Provide on-call behavioural support for staff as required
  • Lead self-reflection sessions and proactive interventions to reduce exclusions
  • Support the SEN team with inclusion practices, EHCP reviews, and individual learning plans

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Experience in pastoral support or behaviour management in educational or care settings
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to build trust with pupils, families, and staff
  • Knowledge of SEN, EHCP processes, and safeguarding procedures
  • Ability to deliver interventions and use emotional coaching strategies
  • Commitment to accurate record-keeping and evidence-based practice
  • Proactive, solution-focused approach with the ability to work independently when required

Preferred

  • Experience mentoring or supporting colleagues in educational or care settings
  • Background in working with students with autism, trauma, attachment, or anxiety
  • Experience with inclusion practices and individual learning plan development
  • Familiarity with outdoor education, horticulture, or animal husbandry
