The Opportunity:

As Head of Secondary Department, you will lead and inspire a team of educators, driving excellence in teaching and learning. This role is ideal for someone passionate about making a real difference in the lives of young people.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Secondary and Sixth Form Department to ensure the highest standards of teaching and learning.
  • Support the Deputy Headteacher in the management of the school and deputise in their absence.
  • Develop and implement a creative and inspiring curriculum tailored to the needs of students.
  • Oversee student assessment, accreditation, and data analysis to support learning outcomes.
  • Work closely with the Senior Leadership Team to support transitions for students post-16 and post-19.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant school policies, risk assessments, and safeguarding procedures.
  • Provide leadership to staff, fostering a culture of high achievement, positive behaviour, and student wellbeing.
  • Build strong relationships with parents, governors, and the wider community as part of the Safeguarding Team.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven leadership experience in an educational setting.
  • Strong understanding of SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) and autism-specific teaching approaches.
  • Experience in curriculum development and delivery.
  • Ability to manage and lead a team effectively.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and student wellbeing.

Preferred

  • Experience in a special school or similar setting.
  • Knowledge of the National Autistic Society standards and practices.
  • Experience with student transitions and post-16 planning.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with parents, staff, and external agencies.
