The Opportunity:

As a Secondary SEN Teacher, you will be responsible for delivering tailored, high-quality education to students with a range of special educational needs, including ASD, SLD, and complex communication needs. This role is ideal for passionate and reflective educators who are committed to continuous professional development and inclusive teaching practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver well-sequenced, adaptive learning tailored to students with special educational needs.
  • Use communication supports (visuals, AAC) to enhance student participation and reduce frustration.
  • Apply structured programmes such as TEACCH-style approaches and sensory regulation tools.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support student progress and development.
  • Evaluate the impact of teaching strategies and adjust practice accordingly.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and ensure safeguarding and safer working practices.
  • Contribute to curriculum development within a SEND context.
  • Support students in their preparation for adulthood through functional learning and life skills.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified teacher with experience in special educational needs.
  • Strong adaptive teaching and curriculum planning skills.
  • Understanding of behaviour as communication and the ability to remain calm and consistent.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and professional boundaries.
  • Ability to evaluate impact and refine teaching practices.

Preferred

  • Experience working with students with ASD, SLD, or complex communication needs.
  • Background in EYFS, KS1, or KS2 teaching.
  • Familiarity with the Chartered College of Teaching Professional Framework.
  • Experience with early career teacher induction and mentoring.
