The Opportunity:

As the Head of Year, you will play a key role in leading and supporting a year group, ensuring students achieve their full potential. This is an opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of young people, working within a collaborative and forward-thinking school community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the pastoral and academic needs of a year group.
  • Develop and implement strategies to support student progress and address barriers to learning.
  • Work closely with teaching staff, parents, and external agencies to ensure student well-being and success.
  • Monitor and report on student behavior, attendance, and academic performance.
  • Organise and oversee extracurricular activities and events for the year group.
  • Provide guidance and support to students, ensuring a safe and inclusive learning environment.
  • Collaborate with other Heads of Year and senior leadership to drive school improvement.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of the school’s curriculum and pastoral policies.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in a pastoral leadership role, preferably within a secondary school setting.
  • Strong classroom teaching experience, ideally in Maths, Science, English or Humanities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage and lead a team effectively.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Preferred

  • Experience in a Head of Year or similar leadership role.
  • Familiarity with the United Learning curriculum and resources.
  • Experience in managing student behavior and supporting students with additional needs.
  • A passion for education and a commitment to student success.
