The Opportunity:

As a Higher Level Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality learning support and mentoring to Teaching Assistants. This is a key position in helping students with complex needs achieve their full potential and prepare for a successful future.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support students by promoting positive relationships between staff and students.
  • Provide care and support for individual students and groups in a variety of learning situations.
  • Ensure students are supported to participate in learning activities tailored to their specific needs.
  • Mentor and coach Teaching Assistants to improve the quality of learning support provided.
  • Supervise a class group in the absence of a teacher, with support from senior staff.
  • Assist in the assessment of Teaching Assistant practice to enable the achievement of NVQ 3.
  • Support the delivery of the curriculum by working with groups or individuals under the guidance of teachers.
  • Contribute to the planning, evaluation, and recording of student progress and performance.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Relevant experience in education or support roles, preferably within a specialist setting.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with students with complex needs and challenging behaviour.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Preferred

  • Experience in mentoring or coaching others.
  • Knowledge of special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
  • Experience with the use of information and communication technology in the classroom.
  • Previous experience in a residential or therapeutic care setting.
