The Opportunity:
As a Higher Level Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality learning support and mentoring to Teaching Assistants. This is a key position in helping students with complex needs achieve their full potential and prepare for a successful future.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support students by promoting positive relationships between staff and students.
- Provide care and support for individual students and groups in a variety of learning situations.
- Ensure students are supported to participate in learning activities tailored to their specific needs.
- Mentor and coach Teaching Assistants to improve the quality of learning support provided.
- Supervise a class group in the absence of a teacher, with support from senior staff.
- Assist in the assessment of Teaching Assistant practice to enable the achievement of NVQ 3.
- Support the delivery of the curriculum by working with groups or individuals under the guidance of teachers.
- Contribute to the planning, evaluation, and recording of student progress and performance.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Relevant experience in education or support roles, preferably within a specialist setting.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with students with complex needs and challenging behaviour.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
Preferred
- Experience in mentoring or coaching others.
- Knowledge of special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
- Experience with the use of information and communication technology in the classroom.
- Previous experience in a residential or therapeutic care setting.
