Higher Level Teaching Assistant opportunity with a school focused on supporting students with autism and SEMH needs.

The Opportunity:

We are seeking a Higher Level Teaching Assistant to support students across all key stages, working collaboratively with teachers and contributing to raising academic achievement and personal development. This role offers the chance to make a real difference in the lives of students with complex needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support learning across the curriculum by working collaboratively with teachers and implementing effective strategies
  • Lead small group or one-to-one interventions tailored to the specific needs of students
  • Collaborate with education and wellbeing teams to support students’ emotional regulation and engagement
  • Maintain positive relationships with students, acting as a role model and responding to individual needs with empathy
  • Take responsibility for planning, delivering, and assessing interventions to support student progress
  • Support the professional development of other staff members through mentoring and sharing expertise
  • Ensure the safety and welfare of students, creating a supportive learning environment
  • Design and implement strategies to help students regulate emotions and develop self-control

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience working with children and young people with social/emotional difficulties and/or challenging behaviour
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to use ICT tools for tracking progress
  • Demonstrated emotional availability and resilience, with the ability to support students in challenging situations
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and demonstrate excellent problem-solving skills
  • Experience in leading individual or small group interventions and mentoring others

Preferred

  • Prior experience in a Special Educational Needs environment
  • Experience supporting adapted teaching approaches and challenging behaviour
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and improving teaching and learning outcomes
