The Opportunity:
As a History Teacher, you will play a key role in shaping students' understanding of the past and its relevance to the present and future. You will deliver a dynamic and inquiry-based History curriculum that encourages critical thinking and a deep appreciation of global historical narratives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and deliver a high-quality History curriculum aligned with the Cambridge International and school framework.
- Teach History to students across a range of year groups, fostering historical inquiry and analytical thinking.
- Use primary and secondary sources to design engaging, project-based lessons that develop critical thinking and historical understanding.
- Support students in preparing for IGCSE examinations with a rigorous and enriching course of study.
- Contribute to cross-disciplinary learning by collaborating with teachers in subjects such as Global Perspectives.
- Inspire students to engage with history through extracurricular activities, competitions, and educational visits.
- Provide pastoral care as a Form Tutor, supporting students' academic and personal development.
- Communicate effectively with parents and colleagues about students' progress and learning.
- Participate in professional development and share best practices in History teaching.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Minimum three years of teaching experience in an international school environment.
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education or a relevant discipline, with a recognised teaching qualification.
- Strong subject knowledge in History, including experience teaching students aged 10–18 and preparing them for IGCSE.
- Ability to design and deliver inquiry-led lessons that develop critical thinking and historical understanding.
- Strong understanding of historical interpretation, source evaluation, and extended essay writing.
- Commitment to inclusive and differentiated teaching practices that meet the needs of all learners.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills to manage teaching, tutoring, and school responsibilities.
Preferred
- Familiarity with inquiry-based or concept-based learning approaches in History.
- Experience teaching a second Humanities subject, such as Geography or Global Perspectives.
- Experience in curriculum development or designing schemes of work within an international school context.
- Strong pastoral instincts and the ability to support students’ wellbeing and personal development.
- Willingness to contribute to co-curricular activities such as Model United Nations or historical research competitions.
- Interest in integrating digital tools and virtual resources to enhance historical inquiry.
- Awareness of contemporary debates in historiography and cultural memory.
