Summary:

KS2 Learning Support Assistant role with a focus on 1:1 support for pupils with physical disabilities.

The Opportunity:

As a KS2 Learning Support Assistant, you will provide dedicated 1:1 support to a pupil with physical disabilities, enabling them to fully engage in learning, develop independence, and thrive in a nurturing environment. This is a hands-on role that combines education, care, and clinical support to ensure the pupil’s needs are met.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support a pupil with physical disabilities in accessing the curriculum through 1:1 assistance and collaboration with teaching staff.
  • Assist with the use of AAC systems and communication aids, creating Grids to enhance curriculum access.
  • Provide mobility, positioning, and safe use of hoisting equipment in line with manual handling procedures.
  • Support medication and feeding requirements with care and sensitivity.
  • Deliver personal care with dignity, respect, and empathy.
  • Foster the pupil’s social interaction, emotional wellbeing, and learning outcomes.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, therapists, parents, and external professionals to ensure holistic support.
  • Contribute to the development of the pupil’s independence and communication skills.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Experience working with children with additional needs, particularly those with physical disabilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, showing empathy and patience.
  • Confidence in providing personal care and support in a respectful and sensitive manner.
  • Understanding of AAC systems and communication aids.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.

Preferred

  • Experience in education or a related field, such as teaching or childcare.
  • Experience with mobility support and the use of hoisting equipment.
  • Previous experience in a school or educational setting.
  • Knowledge of child development and inclusive education practices.
  • Experience with medication management and personal care support.
