The Opportunity:

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting students with special educational needs, working closely with class teachers to create a positive and inclusive learning environment. This is an ideal opportunity for those looking to grow within the SEND sector and develop their skills in a supportive and innovative setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the class teacher in managing pupils and preparing the classroom environment
  • Assist with the implementation of individual education plans and behaviour management strategies
  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils with specific learning needs
  • Prepare and set out resources to support effective teaching and learning
  • Collaborate with staff to ensure a consistent and supportive approach to student behaviour and engagement
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of a bespoke curriculum tailored to individual student needs
  • Support pupils with challenging behaviour through the application of positive behaviour management techniques
  • Assist in the organisation and delivery of extracurricular activities and school events

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Previous experience supporting children and young people with special educational needs
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team and support the class teacher effectively
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
  • Flexibility to work term time only, with 2 INSET days

Preferred

  • Experience working in a special school or similar educational setting
  • Knowledge of SEND teaching strategies and individual education plans
  • Experience with behaviour management techniques for students with learning difficulties
  • Understanding of the needs of children with Autism or Down Syndrome
  • Experience in a multi-academy trust or similar organisation
