Job Description

Summary:

Seeking a passionate Librarian to manage and inspire a vibrant school library.

About the School:

A school dedicated to fostering academic excellence, personal growth, and a strong sense of community in boys aged 8 to 13. It offers a supportive, inclusive environment with a wide range of academic and extracurricular opportunities.

The Opportunity:

As a Librarian, you will play a key role in managing and developing the school library, promoting a love of reading, and supporting the academic and personal development of students. This is a term-time only position with a focus on creating an engaging and inspiring learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and develop the school library, ensuring it is a welcoming and inspiring space for students and staff.
  • Promote a culture of reading for pleasure and support learning across the curriculum.
  • Work closely with teaching staff, particularly the English Department, to enhance the library’s role in academic life.
  • Attend staff meetings, training days, open events, and school activities to contribute to the wider life of the school.
  • Uphold and promote the ethos and values of the school at all times.
  • Ensure the library is well-organised, safe, and accessible to all students.
  • Support and assist students in selecting and using library resources effectively.
  • Maintain and update library systems and records to ensure efficient operations.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in library management and a passion for reading.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Commitment to the school’s ethos and values.

Preferred

  • Experience working in a school or educational setting.
  • Knowledge of library software and cataloguing systems.
  • Experience in developing and promoting reading initiatives.
  • Flexibility to work term-time only and during school events.
