The Opportunity:

As a Literacy Mentor and Reading Support Assistant, you will play a key role in raising the profile of literacy and promoting a love of reading among students. You will support the school’s mission to improve reading ability, especially among weaker readers, while contributing to the development of the literacy department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support and mentor students to improve their reading skills and confidence.
  • Develop and deliver targeted literacy programs and interventions.
  • Collaborate with teachers to integrate reading strategies across the curriculum.
  • Monitor and assess student progress to ensure effective support is provided.
  • Promote a culture of reading and literacy throughout the school.
  • Assist in organizing and leading reading events and activities.
  • Provide guidance and support to students and staff on literacy-related matters.
  • Contribute to the continuous professional development of the literacy team.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in literacy support or teaching.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with students of all abilities.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development.
  • Experience in a school or educational setting.

Preferred

  • Experience in mentoring or coaching students.
  • Knowledge of literacy strategies and reading interventions.
  • Experience with students aged 11–19.
  • Familiarity with curriculum development and delivery.
  • Experience in working with students with additional needs.
