The Opportunity:
As a Literacy Mentor and Reading Support Assistant, you will play a key role in raising the profile of literacy and promoting a love of reading among students. You will support the school’s mission to improve reading ability, especially among weaker readers, while contributing to the development of the literacy department.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support and mentor students to improve their reading skills and confidence.
- Develop and deliver targeted literacy programs and interventions.
- Collaborate with teachers to integrate reading strategies across the curriculum.
- Monitor and assess student progress to ensure effective support is provided.
- Promote a culture of reading and literacy throughout the school.
- Assist in organizing and leading reading events and activities.
- Provide guidance and support to students and staff on literacy-related matters.
- Contribute to the continuous professional development of the literacy team.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Proven experience in literacy support or teaching.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively with students of all abilities.
- Commitment to continuous professional development.
- Experience in a school or educational setting.
Preferred
- Experience in mentoring or coaching students.
- Knowledge of literacy strategies and reading interventions.
- Experience with students aged 11–19.
- Familiarity with curriculum development and delivery.
- Experience in working with students with additional needs.
