The Opportunity:

As a Literacy Subject Leader, you will play a key role in shaping and delivering high-quality English and Literacy education across the school. You will lead, coordinate and quality assure the subject area, ensuring that learning is engaging, structured and tailored to the needs of all students. This role is ideal for someone passionate about making a real difference in the lives of young people with complex learning needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and coordinate the planning, delivery and quality assurance of the Literacy/English curriculum across the school.
  • Develop and implement effective teaching strategies that support students with a range of learning needs, including those with autism and communication difficulties.
  • Work closely with teaching staff, therapists and families to ensure a consistent and holistic approach to student learning.
  • Ensure that all learning experiences are engaging, structured and aligned with the National Curriculum framework.
  • Support students in preparing for examinations and assessments, providing targeted guidance and resources.
  • Promote a positive and inclusive school culture by building strong partnerships with families and the wider school community.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve teaching practices to enhance student outcomes and engagement.
  • Collaborate with the Middle Leadership Team to contribute to the overall direction and development of the school.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified Teaching Status.
  • Proven experience in leading and quality assuring a subject area, specifically Literacy/English.
  • Experience of working with young people with a range of learning needs and destination aims.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills with a practical, student-centred approach.
  • Experience of preparing students for examinations and assessments.
  • Experience working with children and young people with special educational needs, including those on the autistic spectrum.

Preferred

  • Experience with the National Curriculum framework.
  • Experience in therapeutic and experiential education strategies.
  • Experience in continuing professional development and staff mentoring.
