The Opportunity:
As an SEN Teacher, you will play a vital role in delivering individualised and engaging lessons tailored to the unique needs of students. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to ensure a consistent, person-centred approach and support students in achieving their full potential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver individualised and engaging lessons that consider cognitive, communication, and sensory profiles.
- Lead and manage a class team to ensure a consistent and person-centred approach across the day.
- Collaborate with therapists and other professionals to embed therapeutic strategies into daily teaching.
- Use augmentative and alternative communication systems (AAC) including high-tech and low-tech systems.
- Build strong relationships with families and contribute positively to home-school communication.
- Participate in annual reviews and Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP) processes.
- Support students with complex and severe learning needs and manage behaviours using Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) principles.
- Inspire and support a class team to deliver high-quality, consistent care and education.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Qualified teacher with proven SEN experience, ideally in a special school setting.
- Extensive experience with AAC systems – both high-tech and low-tech.
- Experience teaching students with complex and severe learning needs.
- Ability to manage behaviours positively using PBS principles.
- Skilled in multidisciplinary collaboration and embedding therapeutic/regulation strategies into teaching.
- Ability to lead, inspire, and support a class team to deliver high-quality, consistent care and education.
- Confidence in working with parents/carers and supporting EHCP processes.
Preferred
- Experience in a Catholic school or similar educational setting.
- Experience with Thrive methodology or Positive Behaviour Support (PBS).
- Experience in residential or short break provision settings.
- Familiarity with differentiated curriculum planning and implementation.
